|A group of thieves have been taking a big bite out of Apple Store customers by stealing computers in more than 100 "follow away" burglaries in the Los Angeles area.|
Last month, the Orange County district attorney's office charged three Los Angeles residents with burglary and grand theft in connection with 28 cases in which thieves broke into vehicles and stole computers from customers who had visited Apple retail stores.
The suspects had a specific method of operation. They would stake out an Apple store and choose their target. Then they would follow their prospective victim when they drove to another shop or a parking spot near their home. If computers were left unattended inside the vehicle, the thieves took them.
The take away message here is to not leave computers or other expensive equipment in your car after you have gone shopping. Or at any other time for that matter and certainly not in plain sight.
