|I recently received an email asking why we still have a contract with Comcast given the many new over-the-air and internet options for watching TV. |
I answered as follows:
I agree that there are many lower cost alternatives to cable these days e.g. Netfix, Hulu, etc.
However, the fact is we signed an eight year contract with Comcast back in 2010 that runs from 2/1/2010 until 2/1/2018. So the earliest we can eliminate the service would be in early 2018.
As for my personal feelings, on one hand we get a very good price from Comcast for their Digital Starter service ($42.37 per month inducing taxes and fees). And there are a lot of shows that I like that are easy to watch on TV with a DVR (not included in the base price) for time switching and commercial skipping. And Comcast has a good product. But new alternatives based on ever faster Internet speeds are now also very attractive.
That said, I can assure you that we will be taking a hard look at our options during 2017, because a lot has changed in peoples viewing habits since 2010 and more changes are on the way.
