|The AC units in our community are nine years old and some are requiring replacement. |
So far about 7 of 160 condo units have been replaced and about 5 of 100 in the townhomes.
However, unlike replacing aging water heaters that can fail and flood your unit and possibly surrounding units, there is no real urgency to replacing your AC unit, if you don't mind going without AC for a few days to a week when it does fail.
On the other hand, if your AC unit fails and you are faced with the choice of spending money on a major repair bill to replace the compressor, replacing the entire unit, including the outside unit and the inside air handler would be a better choice - if you have the money.
As for the cost to replace both the outside unit and the inside unit, plan on spending about $3,000 to $3,500 for a name brand product with a 10 year guarantee.
Recommended vendors - Aspen Air Conditioning (561-395-1500) - the company that installed the original units and Express Air Conditioning Inc (561-271-5064) - the company that provides AC service for the master association and the developer's remaining units.
