Free Credit Reports
The government requires that the three major credit bureaus - Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion - provide one free report annually to consumers.
Click here to get your free, government mandated reports, but be careful to not select any of the additional options that are not free.
In addition, new services like Credit.com, CreditKarma and Quizzle also provide free credit snapshots. I tried Credit.com and was pleased with the no nonsense aspect of the service and the easy to understand detailed reports - all free.
As for the many other services, most of them are not free and if you are not careful, you will end up getting a monthly charge on your credit card for their services.
Bottom line - For most people the free government mandated reports are all that one needs. But if you need more, try one of the new free services listed above. Peter Schulz - Editor
